VICTIMS' RIGHTS

On November 4, 2008, the voters of California approved Proposition 9, the Victims' Bill of Rights Act of 2008: Marsy's Law.

This initiative created additional statutory and constitutional rights and placed in our California Constitution a Bill of Rights for crime victims in California. It is known as Marsy's law, and was enacted to provide all victims with rights to due process and justice.

As the City Attorney for the City of Los Angeles, I am deeply committed to protecting these rights and ensuring that crime victims are treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve. In keeping with this mission, we have created a dedicated webpage to help victims learn more about their rights and what they can do to make sure that those rights are protected.
